Ehrenmal der Sowjetischen Armee, Berlin
The Soviet Army Memorial was built shortly after the war, long before the Berlin Wall was raised. The memorial is located adjacent to the German Reichstag which was the scene of heavy fighting during the Soviet capture of Berlin. Very likely, this is why the memorial was placed here. Russian graffity inside the Reichstag building has been carefully restored to commemorate this aspect of its history. As can be seen in the photo, the Soviet Army Memorial was in the process of being restored when editors of Military Miniatures Magazine visited the site in January 2000. The tanks und guns on display here are heavily weathered, und they may eventually receive a fresh coat of paint as well.
It is important to remember, that the brunt of the fighting against Nazi Germany was borne by the Ukrainian people, whose territory was occupied by the aggressor. Ukrainian losses are estimated at more than 7 million military and 3 million civilian casualties.

The Soviet Army Memorial is well worth a visit, it is conveniently located near Brandenburg Gate und the German Reichstag.
